Nanny FAQs

Why should I use a nanny agency?

Careway Nanny Agency will save you the time it takes to prescreen nannies for your specific job description meaning that you will meet qualified nannies who have been matched to your job description.
You will also be able to benefit from our extensive database of Ireland's most experienced nannies.

Can you advise me on the best type of childcare for me?

We will guide you through your childcare options, providing advice on the best type of childcare to suit your needs.

What type of childcare placements do you provide?

We have every type of childcare available, including nannies, mother's helpers, au pairs, male nannies, maternity nurses, emergency childcarers, babysitters, tutors and holiday nannies.

What assurance can you provide regarding your nannies?

We personally interview and screen all of our nannies and will only recommend nannies that we think are suitable for your childcare needs.
Our nannies are reference checked and Garda vetted, to provide you peace of mind.

What kind of experience do your nannies have?

All of our nannies must have extensive childcare experience and their childcare background can be from a variety of experiences including nanny experience, crèche and Montessori, or primary school experience. Many of our nannies have childcare qualifications.

Are the nannies First Aid trained?

Most nannies have a current first aid certificate and those who do not are willing to under take training should you specifically request this.

How do you specifically choose the nannies for our particular family?

There are many factors taken into consideration when choosing a shortlist of nannies for your family. We make sure that the nannies experience corresponds with the level of care required, in terms of number and age of children as well as any special requirements and specific duties required.
We also select the nannies according to the type of personality, interests and hobbies that will be the best fit for your family.
We also take into account practical factors such as salary range offered, proximity of the nannies home to yours, whether you have pets that will interfere with any allergies the nanny may have, etc.

How long does it take to find the right nanny?

We have a large selection of nannies ready for placement and we will get to work immediately on finding the right nanny for you, and will keep you updated every step of the way. Most families take between two and four weeks to interview and conduct trials with suitable nannies and, because of our selective matching and screening most families interview an average of three nannies before making a hiring decision. However, there is no limit to the number of nannies you are allowed to interview and we will work with you until you find the right nanny.

Where do the interviews take place when we are ready to begin interviewing nannies?

Most families choose to have the candidates they are considering come right to their home, although you may conduct interviews at our office, or at your work, a coffee shop, etc. Once you confirm a time to meet your chosen nannies, we provide them with your address and a map, again eliminating all hassle for you.

Do I employ the nanny or does the agency employ the nanny?

Careway Nanny Agency works in the same way as an employment agency and we matches families with nannies. Once a nanny has accepted a position, we provide you with a comprehensive nanny placement pack and will assist you in putting together a contact to ensure that everything is clear from the beginning.

What are the duties of a nanny?

There is no single job description for a nanny, because each family will have their own unique childcare requirements. However, the typical duties of a nanny will include all duties relating to your children. This means that your nanny will ensure the children are active and social by organizing play dates, attend classes, going on outings to the park, library, etc and by utilizing her knowledge and skills to further your children's development through play by providing activities and learning opportunities such as arts and crafts, singing, reading, construction play, outdoor play, etc. Your nanny will also be responsible for providing care such as bathing, dressing and preparing nutritious meals.

Will my nanny do housekeeping?

Your nanny can be expected to wash, iron and organize the children's clothes and belongings. She will ensure that toys are clean and safe, organized and tidied away at the end of the day, and the play area kept clean and tidy.
Although your nanny is not expected to do any heavy housework, family cooking or any other chores not related to the children but your nanny will clean up after themselves.

Can my nanny provide babysitting services too?

Most of our nannies are more than happy to provide additional babysitting services, but it is best to discuss and agree upon this requirement, as well as the rate, before employment commencement. Careway can also provide you with a regular or ad hoc babysitter should your nanny not be available to babysit for you.

What are the accommodation must I provide for a live-in nanny?

A live-in nanny requires her own bedroom and bathroom (in some cases they may have to share the bathroom with the children). The nannies bedroom should be furnished with a bed, desk and chair and ample storage space.

What are the standard working hours of a nanny?

The working hours of a nanny will depend on what you require and we have nannies available to fill a wide range of positions.

How much do I pay my nanny?

Nanny costs will depend on experience, qualifications and duties required.

Do you recommend a nanny payroll service?

While not essential, it does make it easier for both families and nannies if you utilize a nanny payroll service and we can provide you the details of a payroll firm who can assist.

When is the placement fee due?

The placement fee is due when you hire a nanny.

How do we pay for the service?

You will receive an invoice, which can be paid by cheque, cash or online money transfer.

How does the six-month guarantee work?

Within the first six months, if the fit isn't right for any reason, and either you or your nanny is not happy, we make a new match at no extra cost.
